I’ve always believed that the Hammond B-3 electric organ was created specifically for Jimmy Smith. His improvisations are legendary! His albums “Livin’ It Up” and “The Cat” (with Lalo Schiffrin) are my special favorites. He played and recorded with everyone from Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Stanley Turrentine and B.B. King, to Michael Jackson and Dee Dee Bridgewater. In 2005, he was awarded The NEA Jazz Masters Award, which is the highest honor that the U.S. awards to jazz artists.
